Men's Mountain
Wind chill, cold, wet, strong sun - your clothes have to work hard on a mountain. Working from the inside out you will need a warm base layer such as the Icebreaker Bodyfit 200 suit. Your mid layer will be part of your layers and a layer for use on it's own should it get hot. The Craghopper Kiwi long sleeve shirt and trousers would do the job. On top of this you will need a thermal top layer, consider the Travelproof Fuego or the North Face Nuptse. Alternatively you could use a Fleece jacket. To finish off your layers you will need a waterproof and windproof jacket and trousers.
Don't forget your extremities, if these get cold your whole body will get cold very quickly.We like the Berghaus AQ2 Mountain Cap as it is warm and waterproof and fits snugly under a jacket hood. The Buff Polar is great for keeping your neck warm or as an added layer on your head. We like the North Face Redpoint glove which combines warmth and waterproof but manage to stay lightweight. Consider a liner glove for extra warmth and for when you need to remove your outerglove to use your hands.
Ensure you have some very warm socks such as the Bridgedale Summit Socks or the Icebreaker Hike LIte Crew. A boot designed for mountain use such as the Solomon COmet or the Scarpa Gravity are warm and waterproof in addition to offering good ankle support.
For extreme climbs you must get specialist advice from a body such as the British Mountaineering Council 0161 445 6111.
