The Nomad pharmacy offers a range of Malaria Tablets for travel to all regions. If you’re looking to safely buy malaria tablets online from the Nomad pharmacy, we’ve put together a guide to help you decide which malaria prevention medication might be right for you and your trip.
What are the Different Antimalarial Options?
In the UK there are several well known brand name malaria tablets as well as generic versions of the same medication. The main options for malaria tablets are:
- Atovaquone/Proguanil (brand name Malarone)
- Doxycycline
- Mefloquine (brand name Lariam)
- Chloroquine (brand name Avloclor)
All of these options are available at Nomad but choosing which is the right one for you depends on a number of factors. There are other antimalarial options sold in other countries, but always be aware of the risk of counterfeit medications.
How Long Should You Continue Taking Malaria Tablets?
You need to start taking antimalarial tablets in advance of arriving in the malaria area. How long before depends on which one you choose. Malarone, Generic Malarone, Malarone Paediatric and Atovaquone-Proguanil only need to be started one day before you arrive in the malaria zone, every day while in the affected area, and are taken for 7 days after leaving. This shorter schedule is preferred by many, especially for short trips. Please note, paediatric malarone is not available online, please contact the pharmacy directly pharmacy@nomadtravel.co.uk
Which Malaria Tablets Should I Take?
The Nomad pharmacy offers a range of both brand name and generic Malaria Tablets for travel to all regions. To find out if you’re travelling to a High Risk area and which antimalarial you need to take, check the Destinations Guide or NHS Fit for Travel, or speak with a Travel Health Professional.

Children are particularly at risk of contracting severe, and potentially fatal, cases of malaria. We would advise parents travelling to malaria zones to avoid taking infants and children without a thorough consultation and advice from a Nomad travel nurse, and with proper precautions to to prevent the disease for the duration of their trip. Find out more about malaria tablets for children.
Malaria tablets are not 100% effective against malaria and biting insects spread lots of other diseases. Get fully protected by packing plenty of Insect Repellents.
