WHAT IS IT?
Melatonin is a hormone produced naturally in your body and plays a role in natural circadian rhythms. Melatonin levels rise in your body at night-time and play a role in making you sleepy, falling asleep and staying asleep.
WHO CAN IT HELP?
Melatonin has been shown to help get over the effects of jetlag, especially when travelling in an Easterly direction, by decreasing the time taken to re-establish natural day/night rhythms
HOW DO I TAKE IT?
Take one tablet at night, after food or a snack, about an hour before bedtime for up to a maximum of 5 days. Do not take it before 8pm or after 4am
SIDE EFFECTS:
Melatonin is generally very well tolerated but the most likely side effects would be headache, nausea and fatigue next day.

WHO SHOULDN’T TAKE IT?
Melatonin is well tolerated by most people, but you shouldn’t take it if you are taking other medicines for anxiety, depression or insomnia as the overall effect of the drowsiness may be difficult to overcome next day.
- Its best to avoid alcohol whilst taking melatonin in order to get the maximum benefit from the medicine.
- It is also not suitable for people taking anticoagulants or anyone with an autoimmune disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
- It is not suitable if you are epileptic or diabetic, pregnant or breastfeeding.
